Newfoundland Scenic Routes

Irish Loop
The Irish Loop refers to an area that encircles the shores of Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula. The area is named after the Irish immigrants that first inhabited this part of Newfoundland, and for the geography which resembles their homeland. This tour around the Irish Loop can be done in a day at a leisurely pace or is best done over a couple of days to truly enjoy the scenery, history and the people.

Admiral's Coast
The Admiral’s Coast follows Route 60 along the western and southern shore of Conception Bay between Colliers and Paradise, and provides excellent views over the bay.

The Discovery Trail
From Cabot to Cormack to Coaker, from Trinity to Bonavista to Brooklyn, and from the fertile farmland of Lethbridge to the windswept plain around The Dungeon, the Discovery Trail takes you through time, myth and legend into a reality that will leave you wondering if seeing really is believing.

The Baccalieu Trail
Along Routes 80 and 70, and their offshoots, you'll find charming fishing villages, gorgeous coastal scenery, and a few surprises. There are several ways to access The Baccalieu Trail: from Route 60, or take Routes 75 or 80 from Route 1.

The Kittiwake Coast
While visiting Central Newfoundland explore the Kittiwake Coast and discover unspoiled nature that is just "beyond your imagination". Islands, sea coast, beaches, icebergs, whales, trails and plenty more.

Gros Morne
Gros Morne" translates roughly from the French as "big gloomy," and if you arrive on a day when ghostly bits of fog blow across the road and scud clouds hover in the glacial valleys, you'll get a pretty good idea how this area got its name. Even on brilliantly sunny days there's something about the stark mountains, lonely fjords cut off from the ocean, and miles of tangled spruce forest that can trigger mild melancholia.

The Viking Trail
An automobile cruising the Viking Trail is really a time machine that takes you to the beginnings of our planet, ancient native burial grounds, and the thousand-year-old Viking settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. Travel through wooded valleys, over mountains, along a windswept seacoast. This tour can take from two to ten days. Take your time, for time will tug you gently along the Trail, urging side trips to fjords and falls, sand dunes and fields of wildflowers.
